Blake Daniels explores the complex dynamics of interpersonal relationships through their paintings, capturing the essence of the bonds shared between friends, lovers, and family members. These captivating scenes unfold in mystical landscapes, evoking a mesmerizing and intimate atmosphere that deeply resonates with viewers. They have developed a distinctive style that seamlessly blends figurative and abstract elements. Their creative repertoire encompasses a wide range of techniques, from traditional oil painting to innovative mixed-media experiments.

Daniels perceives their work as a struggle to grasp an elusive past. Each canvas is an attempt to rekindle a memory, to restore its sensations, scents, and emotions. Their creative process is based on an assemblage of drawings, writings, and sketches, layered together to give birth to compositions where time periods and references intersect and intertwine.

Blake Daniels (born in 1990, lives and works in Paris, FR) is an American artist. They obtained a Master in Fine Arts in 2017 from the University of the Witwatersrand (Johannesburg, ZA) as well as a BA in Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (Chicago, IL, US).Their work has been the subject of recent solo exhibitions at Matthew Brown (Los Angeles, CA, US) and Blank Projects (Cape Town, ZA). They have participated in residencies at the Macedonia Institute (Chatham, NY, US), the Cité internationale des arts (Paris, FR), and the Fine Art Works Center Fellowship (Provincetown, MA, US).

They were awarded the Edward L. Ryerson Fellowship at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and have completed residencies at the Macedonia Institute (Chatham, NY, US), the Cité internationale des arts (Paris, FR), and the Fine Art Works Center Fellowship (Provincetown, MA, US).In 2022, they received the Emerging Artist Grant from the Rema Hort Mann Foundation.
