Biography

Born in 1979, Santa Clara, CA; raised in Chile.
Lives and works in New York, NY

Ernesto Burgos’ sculptural works are influenced by the abstract expressionist tendencies of the 1950s, characterized by large forms and the manipulation of raw materials. Burgos uses ordinary materials such as cardboard, fiberglass and resin, undergoing a meticulous process of folding, tearing, cutting and gluing, guided partly by intuition and partly by the nature of the materials themselves. The artist is fascinated by objects in the process of transformation, and insists that the process remains visible in the final piece.

His artistic exploration extends beyond his own exhibitions, as evidenced by his curation of the group show “Evening of the Day” at Bremond Capela in April 2023, featuring works by Saif Azzuz, Chelsea Culprit, Brian DeGraw, Brittni Ann Harvey, Erin O’Keefe, Eddie Martinez, Sarah Peters and Derek Weisberg. This exhibition depicting a contemporary New York art scene explored the cyclical nature of art and its motifs.
