Gabe Cortese is an American painter whose work explores queer narratives, blending desire and affection with a touch of comedy and drama. Drawing inspiration from classical compositions in art history, particularly Renaissance religious paintings and Mannerism, Cortese subverts these traditional motifs to develop narratives centered on queerness, sexuality, and human relationships. The figures in his works are often a fusion of his own body and that of his partner, creating an avatar to explore these themes.
Gabe Cortese (born in 1994, lives and works in Providence, RI, US) recently held a solo exhibition titled Soft Spot at G/ART/EN (Como, Lombardy, IT). He has also participated in several group exhibitions, including at the Orlando Museum of Art (Orlando, FL, US), the Green Family Art Foundation (Dallas, TX, US), the Institute of Contemporary Art (Miami, FL, US), and the X Museum (Beijing, CN). His works are part of prestigious collections such as the Institute of Contemporary Art (Miami, FL, US), the Orlando Museum of Art (Orlando, FL, US), and the X Museum (Beijing, CN).
