Biography

Born in 1997 in Bielsko-Biala, PL
Lives and works in Warsaw, PL

Karolina Szwed is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice (2022). Her work has recently been shown at the Inside-Out Art Museum in Beijing and in the 47th Painting Biennale Bielska Jesien 2025, where she received the Szum Magazine Award, as well as at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow, Alice Amati Gallery (London), Galeria Yusto/Giner (Marbella, Spain), Elsa Meunier Gallery (Paris, France), and Adams and Ollman (Pittsburgh, USA).

Szwed’s paintings emerge through experimentation, intuition, and repetition. Drawing on gestures of handwriting, scribbling, and note-taking, she translates fleeting marks and remembered movements into painterly forms. She approaches painting as a process of trial and error, in which instinct, speed, chance, and critical reflection operate together. Her process balances luck and skill, first attempts and revisions.
